New Changes Effective for the Fall 2019 Season
We take the responsibility and privilege of working with youth very seriously, and in order to promote and maintain a club-wide culture of responsibility and child safety, there can be no exceptions to our risk management requirements. We apologize in advance for any difficulty or challenges this causes our volunteers. Every volunteer in the club is impacted by these changes.
Recent legislation, and newly updated rules by our sanctioning body - Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer (EPYS) - has resulted in significant changes to our risk management requirements. Specifically, EPYS is requiring all coaches to provide the following prior to taking any action:
PA State Police Criminal Record (PATCH)
PA Child Abuse History (Compass)
If you have lived continuously in PA for the past ten years you must complete an Affidavit of Compliance. If you have not lived continuously in PA for the past ten years, an FBI Fingerprint based criminal history is required. A certification of the same may be provided if it was completed after establishing residency in PA and it was within the last 60 months. **CHANGED**
Safe Sport Trained Certificate **NEW**
Concussion Training Certificate **CHANGED**
Headshot Photo (no sunglasses or hats) **NEW**
It is important that you complete the necessary background checks, training, and documentation quickly. We cannot permit anyone to represent the club or come in contact with children until after they have completed their background checks. Specific steps to complete the process will be posted to the website. Below are a few important notes regarding the new changes:
Mandatory Reporting - Please note that all coaches are now considered to be mandatory reporters for child abuse. As such, the safe sport training will take roughly two hours to complete online and will explain your responsibilities as a mandatory reporter.
Concussion Training - Additionally, the concussion training certificates will have to be renewed every year (yes, you will have to retake the course every year). Additionally, ALL, coaches will need to take concussion awareness training (in the past, only head coaches were required).
FBI Background Checks - Since July of 2018, PA state law requires that all volunteers who have not continuously lived in Pennsylvania must complete an FBI fingerprint-based criminal history report. In other words, if you have lived anywhere outside of Pennsylvania after January 1, 2009, you must complete an FBI Background Check. If you have been living in PA for more than ten years, you must sign an Affidavit of Compliance (instructions will be on the website) indicating that you do not need an FBI Background Check.
